Forged from a recycled metal file these nature inspired critters appeal to those who love reptiles and folks who like to see art made from things that were considered trash. The techniques used remove the original temper from the hardened rasp and change the iron from flat to round without hammering the teeth flat. This is where skill takes over. Its not how hard you hit it, its how you hit it.
Many blacksmiths forge these file snakes each one adding their particular style of details and shapes. Walter uses many parts and pieces in his designs. They add a bit of history and often have a bit of a story. Experts will be quick to point out that the scales are back wards to most a snake is a snake and they love or hate 'em with not much in between.
The crawling snakes range from 12 to 15 inches in length and 3 to 4 inches wide depending on the final position of the critter. This listing is for the exact snake shown in the photographs as each one will have unique markings and characteristics. The finish is about 4 layers of green bees wax, hand buffed to a hard translucent finish. I have shown the piece in two different environments and light levels. Metal work will reflect the colors around it and change with light.
